He married Alice Virginia Kingsbury November 30, 1930 in Kansas City, Jackson Co, MO. Alice was born September 29, 1907. Alice was the daughter of Robert Taylor Kingsbury and Margaret Mills. Alice died November 5, 2006 in Kermit, Winkler Co., TX. OBIT: Alice Kingsbury Burrows, 99, died at her home in Kermit, Texas on November 5, 2006. She was born September 29, 1907, to Robert and Margaret Mills Kingsbury in New Franklin, Missouri.
Alice graduated from Lindenwood College and from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor’s in Journalism in 1929.
While in Plainview, Texas, working on “The Daily Herald Newspaper,” she met Kenneth Edwin Burrows. They were married November 30, 1930, in Kansas City. After living in Odessa, Texas for five years, they operated the L-B Drugstore in Kermit, Texas for 50 years. Son, Ken Jr. was born in 1938.
They were charter members of the First United Methodist Church, where Alice served in many capacities. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday classes of various ages, and later belonged for years to the Builder’s Class. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and was a book reviewer for Study Club.
She was a member of the Winkler County Historical Society for 20 years, a charter member of Medallion Home, a charter member of Kermit Garden Club, and, in early years, belonged to the American Society of University Women.
In Alice’s long life, she was privileged to travel extensively both at home and in foreign lands. She enjoyed oil painting and was an avid reader. At age 90, she was a volunteer student mentor at Purple Sage Elementary.
She is survived by her son: Kenneth Burrows Jr. and his wife, Dusty of Las Vegas, Nevada; two granddaughters: Christie Burrows of Houston, and Joli Uetrecht of Dallas; two great-grandchildren: Luke and Elise Uketrecht of Dallas; sister Jean Brumleu and nephews: Ed Brumleu of Irvine, California and Judge Jon Burrows of Temple, Texas; and niece: Treva Gabbard of Grand Junction, Colorado.
Services to honor her memory will be held 10 AM Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at First United Methodist Church of Kermit with Reverend David Weyant officiating. Pallbearers will include: Steve Uetrecht, Bill Beckham, Jim Davis, Eric Spangler, Santos Lujan and Jim Diller. Honorary pallbearers will be Luke Uetrecht, Dennie Hayes, Jack Brock, Ben Cowling, Roy Peden, Tommy Smith, Robert Alker, Angel Robledo and All Masons. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.
