He married Tabitha Bitha Smith April 24, 1865 in Morgan Co., KY. Tabitha was born August 1849 in Pendleton Co., KY. Tabitha was the daughter of Lewis Smith and Elizabeth Ann Lamsdpwm.

James Keeton and Tabitha Bitha Smith had the following children:

 1592 i. Bracken (Breckenridge)⁸ Keeton was born November 1870.

 1593 ii. Mary Keeton was born in Pendleton Co., KY 1874.

 1594 iii. female Keeton was born in Pendleton Co., KY May 18, 1876. Female died May 18, 1876 in Pendleton Co., KY.

 1595 iv. Laura E. Keeton was born in Pendleton Co., KY 1878.
