John died October 10, 2003 in Winston-Salem, Forsyth Co., NC. OBIT: John “Johnny” Thomas Maynard, 78, of Pfafftown died October 10 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born October 16, 1924, in Yadkin County to Tyre Glen “T.G.” and Rebecca Hutchens Maynard. He was an active member of Pfafftown Baptist Church and retired from Hanes Hosiery with 41 1/2 years of service. He was drafted by the U.S. Army and served in World War II, where he drove a tank for General Patton and earned four battle stars, among other medals. After the war he served with a constabulary unit in Germany and played baseball on the regimental baseball team. Preceding him in death were his first wife, Ruth Wooten Maynard; five sisters, Mary Watson, Maude Boggs, Mable Johnson, Mildred Wooten and Pauline Matthews; and a brother, Forest Maynard. Surviving are his wife, Shirley; a son, Teddy R. Maynard and wife Arlene of Cary; a daughter, Pamela Cooper and husband Brian of Charlotte; three granddaughters, Amy Cooper of Greenville, S.C., Traci Maynard and Carly Maynard, both of Cary; a grandson, Ross Maynard of Cary; two sisters, Nancy Baity and husband T.B. and Donnie Vestal and husband Blaine; two stepsons, Curtis Myers and wife Kerry of Rogers, Ark., and Tony Myers and wife Cheryl of Charleston, S.C.; a stepgranddaughter, April Myers of Rogers, Ark.; and a stepgrandson, Matthew Myers of Little Rock, Ark. Funeral services were held at Pfafftown Baptist Church with Pastor Dr. Craig Bowman and Rev. Paul Dean officiating. A military graveside service followed at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.
He married twice. He married Ruth Ann Wooten. Ruth was born April 1, 1929. Ruth died June 23, 1993 in Winston-Salem, Forsyth Co., NC. He married Shirley (___).
