Vernal died September 1, 2011 in Bluefield, Meced Co., WV. OBIT: Rev. Vernal Lee age 83, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2011 at his residence. He was born June 14, 1928 in Blaze, Kentucky the son of Leslie and Martha (Hurley) Fairchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Geraldine (Day) Fairchild; sister: Pauline Smith; brothers: Jesse, Charles, Leslie Junior, Donald and Paul Fairchild. He is survived by his children: Carol Elaine Murphy of Murrells Inlet, SC; Dwaine (Kitty) Fairchild of Fairborn; Delbert (Media) Fairchild; sister: Thelma Lewis of Morgan Co., KY; 8 grandchildren: Leah (Seth) Hayes; Amy (Matthew) Murrell; Carla (Raymond) Smith; Tara (Buck) Smith; Chris, Jeff, Terry and Brian Fairchild; 13 great-grandchildren: Tyler and Chase Murrell; Lydia and Caleb Hayes; Elias, Titus, Caleb, Silas, Gabriel and Myleigh Smith; Jeffrey, Taylor, and Hailey Fairchild; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Rev. Fairchild was a graduate of Bethany Bible College where he received his Bachelor of Ministry degree. He also graduated from ITT Technical Institute. He was the Retired Pastor of Fellowship Tabernacle in Xenia; formerly Pastor of Sunset Freewill Baptist Church in Springfield and served as a chaplain with Greene Memorial Hospital. He began his ministry as Director of Xenia Rescue Mission and retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at McColaugh Funeral Home, Inc. 826 N. Detroit Street, Xenia, with Rev. Sam Miller officiating. Interment to follow in Valley View Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends 3-5 PM Sunday and again Monday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. obit in Springfield News-Sun September 3, 2011
He married Geraldine Day. Geraldine was born January 27, 1930. Geraldine died April 17, 2011.
