James died July 21, 2009 in Childress, Childers Co., TX. OBIT: James Neil "Jim" Hutchins, 84, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Price and the Rev. Bill Pollard officiating. Burial will be in Hutchins Family Cemetery in Estelline by Johnson Funeral Home.
Jim was born Nov. 13, 1924, in Childress to S.T. and Winnie Hutchins. He was raised in Estelline. To many of his longtime friends, he was "Jim Bo."
After high school graduation, he left Estelline to pursue a college education, first at Chapel Hill, N.C., and finishing at Texas Tech. During his time at Tech, he met many people who would become longtime friends.
In 1948, Jim met and later married Josephine Catterton. Through this union, Jim and Josie had three children, Kelly, Kim and Holly.
Jim had a great love for farming and ranching. He awoke early each morning to call area farmers to say hello, ask about their family and ask, "Did you get rain?" Jim was a respected cattleman and received numerous awards for the cattle he raised.
He also was an avid Tech football and basketball fan, rarely missing a game.
Jim attended First Methodist Church in Childress.
Kim and Holly express their gratitude to Ronda Roper for her devotion to Dad. Thanks also to Pepe and Big John for many years of faithful service.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Kelly Neil Hutchins.
Survivors include two children, Kim Hutchins and wife Michelle of Bainbridge Island, Wash., and Holly Hutchins of Amarillo; and four grandchildren, Eric Ratliff and Mia Ratliff, both of Fort Collins, Colo., and Jaqueline Hutchins and John Hutchins, both of Bainbridge Island.
