Mr. Helmick was born March 8, 1930, at Ft. Madison, the son of Elmer and Ieal Marsh Helmick. He married Rose Rhoer June 14, 1948, at Montrose. He was employed as a truck driver for Diamond Transport and was steward for the Teamsters' union. He was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving: The wife; five sons, Michael, Danville, Mark, Wever, Ronald, Kenosha, Wisconsin, Randy and Kevin, at home; a brother, Charles Helmick, Montrose; two sisters, Mrs. Bernard Dart, Keokuk; Mrs. Glen Van Pelt, Montrose, three grandchildren.
Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Brant-Clements funeral home, Reverend Fred Moore; Fairview cemetery. A memorial has been established at Brant-Clements.
He married Rosemary Alice Rhoer June 14, 1948 in Montrose, Lee Co., IA. Rosemary was born April 21, 1928 in Fort Madison, Lee Co., IA. Rosemary was the daughter of Lawrence R. Rhoer and Mary Ann Wood. Rosemary died May 5, 2009 in Fort Madison, Lee Co., IA. OBIT: ?Rosemary A. Helmick, 81, of Fort Madison, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.
Born April 21, 1928, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Mary Wood Rhoer. In June 1948, she married Wayne Helmick. He died in March 1975.
Mrs. Helmick was a homemaker. She was a member of Santa Fe United Methodist Church and the Genealogy Society. She enjoyed genealogy.
Survivors include five sons, Michael Helmick, Mark Helmick, Ron Helmick and Randy Helmick, all of Fort Madison, and Kevin Helmick of Lake Villa, Illinois; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Merle Zerhrlmillion [sic: Zurmuehlen] of Burlington.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, her parents, four brothers and two infant sisters.
No visitation is planned. The body has been cremated.
The graveside service for Mrs. Helmick will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Fairview Cemetery, with the Reverend Jackie Thompson officiating.
