MN to Bert and Iva Sheppard, he married Harriet Hinshaw on Feb. 14, 1944 in Riverside, CA. She preceded him in death. His daughter Niki
Walraven also preceded him in death. Surviving are two daughters, Penny Callaway of Bartonville and Lori (and Tim) Newlin of
Peoria; two sons, Ted (and Chris) of Peoria and Ned (and Kathy) of East Peoria; one son-in-law, Dennis Walraven of Mapleton, thirteen
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He worked 35 years at LeTourneau-Westinghouse and its successors. He was
a primary owner of the Peoria Post Newspaper. He was a founding member of Citizens for Representative Government and South
Towners. He was a Democratic Precinct Committeeman. He served on the Peoria County Board. He also served on the Peoria City
Council as First District Councilman. He was a combat veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army in the
European Theater.
He married Harriet Beatrice Hinshaw February 14, 1944 in Riverside, Riverside Co., CA.
Harriet was born July 12, 1926 in Bloomington, McLean Co., IL. Harriet was the daughter of Bert Benjamin Hinshaw and
Dessa Lee Prather. Harriet died April 1, 2001 in Peoria, Peoria Co., IL.
OBIT: Harriet B. Sheppard, 74, of Peoria died at 12:25 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2001, at her residence. Born July 12, 1926, in
Bloomington to Bert and Dessa Prather Hinshaw, she married Kenneth D. Sheppard on Feb. 14, 1944, in Riverside, Calif. He survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Penny Callaway of Bartonville, Niki (and Dennis) Walraven of Mapleton and Lori (and Tim)
Newlin of Peoria; two sons, Ted (and Chris) of Peoria and Ned (and Kathy) of East Peoria; one sister, Helen VanDusen of Peoria; one brother,
Donald Hinshaw of Peoria; 13 grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren. One sister and one brother preceded her in death.
She last worked as an assistant manager at the Illinois Secretary of State Driver's License Examiner Office in Peoria until
retiring in 1985. She previously had been an agent for American Family Insurance Agency, owning her own agency. Services will be
at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel, where visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight. The Rev. Robert Breitbarth will
officiate. Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
