Thurman died March 3, 2009 in Brownwood, Brown Co., TX. OBIT: Funeral services for Therman “Wayne” Rhodes, age 63, of Brownwood, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2009, at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Slaymaker officiating. Interment is follow in Trickham Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Rhodes passed away Tuesday evening, March 3, 2009, in Brownwood.
Wayne was born April 1, 1945, in Freeport, Texas, to Therman and Frances Rhodes. He married JoAnn Strickland in Hurst, Texas, on Jan. 1, 1975. Over the years he worked overseas on offshore oil rigs and as a plumber. Wayne was employed by the Brownwood Independent School District Maintenance Department for several years. He was an active member in the Brownwood Elks Lodge No. 2300 for 15 years and had served as the Exalted Ruler.
Wayne is survived by his wife, JoAnn Rhodes of Brownwood; a son, Sgt. Zachary W. Rhodes and wife Robin of Fort Campbell, Ky.; grandchildren, Shelby, Logan and Zayne Rhodes; a daughter Jennifer Spencer and husband Robert of Corpus Christi; a stepson, Jimmy Reich and wife Teresa of Wills Point; two stepdaughters, Shirley Reich of Austin, and Kimberly Hampton and husband Terry of Frisco; his mother Frances Rhodes of Grand Prairie; two brothers William Rhodes and wife Janet of Grand Prairie, and James Rhodes of Big Bear, Calif.; two sisters, Peggy Ellison and husband Daryl of Sherman, and Raynett Johnson and husband Doug of Haltom City; sister-in-law, Janet Walden and of Weatherford; brother-in-law, Johnny Strickland and wife Vern of Brownwood; and mother-in-law, Gladys Mahan and husband Ellis of Brownwood; along with numerous other family.
He was preceded in death by his father Therman Rhodesa
He married three times.
Thurman Wayne Rhodes and Jo Ann Strickland had the following children:
