Velvie died Octobe 1, 2013 in Statesville, Iredell Co., NC. OBIT: Mrs. Velva Lee Ladd Allison, 91, of 165 Sharon Ridge Lane, Statesville, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 1, 2013, at her home. Born in Iredell County Dec. 5, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Fayette Columbus Ladd and Lelia Allgood Ladd. She was a homemaker and loved being with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Allison; sons, Billie Paul Allison, John R. Allison Jr. and Larry F. Allison; and daughters, Betty Jean Shoemaker, Mary Upright and Barbara Ann Allison. Survivors include two sons, Tony E. Allison and wife, Pam and Billy Ray Allison; two daughters, Linda Swicegood and Judy Allison, all of Statesville; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a favorite niece and best friend, Barbara Ann Ladd. Services celebrating Mrs. Allison's life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home, with the Revs. Fred Shoemaker and Mitchell Rash officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
She married John Ranslow Allison. John was born February 17, 1923 in Old Fort, McDowell Co., NC. John died September 10, 2004 in Statesville, Iredell Co., NC. OBIT: Mr. Allison was born to the late Rans and Sue Allison. He retired from Statesville Brick. He was preceded in death by his sons, Billy Paul and Larry; and daughters, Mary Upright and Barbara Allison.
Mr. Allison is survived by his wife, Velva Ladd Allison; three sons, John Allison Jr. of South Carolina, Tony and Billy Ray Allison, both of Statesville; three daughters, Betty Shoemaker of Statesville, Linda Swicegood, and Judy Allison, both of Statesville; 20 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
