Henry died January 16, 2012 in Chase City, Mecklenburg Co., VA. OBIT: Henry Edward Carter, 78, of Chase City passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2012 in Halifax.
He was the husband of the late Mary Helen Carter and son of the late Joseph Henry and Mary Elizabeth Allgood Carter.
He was a retired VDOT Employee and a US Army veteran.
Surviving are his two daughters, Sylvia Newcomb (Lawrence, Jr.) of Chase City and Brenda Gill (Will) of Black Ridge; son, Marty Carter (Janet) of Chase City; sisters Nellie Allgood and Rachel Wilmoth both of Chase City; brother Neal Carter of Boydton; grandchildren, Jennifer Moore, Zach Carter, Nick Carter and Sam Gill; and great-grandson Chase Moore.
A graveside service will be held Thursday Jan. 19, at 2 p.m., in Easters United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
He married Mary Helen Cottrell October 31,1953 in Mecklenberg Co., VA. Mary was born February 26, 1938 in Granville Co, NC. Mary was the daughter of Alfred Edrith Cottrell and Allene Rebecca Allgood. Mary died June 11, 1997 in Chase City, Mecklenburg Co., VA.
Henry Edward Carter and Mary Helen Cottrell had the following children:
