5935. James Calvin9 Matthews (C. Blanche8 Ayscue, Louis Green7, Louisa Wright6 Allgood, John Bunyan5, Moses4, Edward3, William2, Edward1 Algood) was born in Vance Co., NC January 31, 1931. James died August 25, 2011 in Henderson, Vance Co., NC. OBIT: James Calvin Matthews Sr., 80, of Norlina, died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at Maria Parham Medical Center. Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Frank Charlie Matthews and Blanche Ayscue Matthews.
Mr. Matthews was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. He was retired from the NCDOT Highway Maintenance Department. He served his country for two years in the National Guard before being drafted in the U.S. Army (Korea) where he served for three years. After the Army, he served an additional eight years in the National Guard.
The Rev. Bob Rose will conduct funeral services at 5 p.m. Sunday at Zion United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2:30 until 4:30 at Blaylock Funeral Home in Warrenton.
Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife, Annie Schuster Matthews; his children, James Matthews Jr. and Katherine M. Norwood of Norlina; grandchildren, Kimberly Moore of Greenville, Nicholas Norwood of Rocky Mount and Ryan Norwood of Norlina; great-grandchildren, Kaitlen Moore of Greenville, Caden Norwood of Rocky Mount and Konnor Moore of Greenville; and siblings, Virgie Lynch of Norlina, Henry Matthews of Norlina and Addie Matthews of Salisbury; and many nieces and nephews.
He married twice. He married Florence Evans. He married Annie Lottie Schuster Apoil 4,1952 in Warren Co., NC. Annie was born 1937 in Warren Co., NC. Annie was the daughter of Wade Forret Schuster and Mary W (___).
James Calvin Matthews and Annie Lottie Schuster had the following children:

15416 iii. Mary Blanche Matthews was born December 6, 1953. Mary died January1,1954 in Portsmouth, Norfolk Co., VA.
