Christine died April 9, 2010 in Mebane, Alamance Co., NC. OBIT: Christine Eaves Oakley, 88, of the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields, died Friday, April 9, 2010, at Alamance Regional Medical Center. A native of Franklin County, she graduated with a B.A. degree from Elon College on May 20, 1941. She was a retired 4th grade teacher and a member of Mebane United Methodist Church. She is survived by her sons, Charles Lee Oakley and wife, Annie, of Greensboro, Daniel Oakley and wife, Denise, of Raleigh, and Gregory Oakley and wife, Amber, of Durham; grandchildren, Michael Oakley and wife, Angela, of Greensboro, Lauren Oakley Arnold of Woodbury, Minn., and Erin Brooke Oakley of Pinehurst; great-grandchildren, Joseph Oakley of Greensboro, Caroline Oakley of Greensboro and Hannah Christine Oakley of Woodbury, Minn.; a sister, Mary E. Greene of Mebane; Charles T. Eaves and wife, Garnetta, of Epsom; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles O. and Addie Lou Ayscue Eaves; her husband, Calvin E. Oakley; a grandson, Charles Oakley Jr.; brothers, Russell Eaves and Brookston Eaves; and a sister, Emily Eaves Moss. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Mebane United Methodist Church with Dr. Bryan Faggart and the Rev. Jan Thornton-Irvine officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Mebane United Methodist Church on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service. McClure Funeral Service in Mebane is in charge of arrangements.
She married Calvin Sneed Oakley May 18, 1943 in Mebane, Alamance Co., NC. Calvin was born September 23, 1920 in Mebane, Alamance Co., NC. Calvin was the son of Bedford Lee Oakley and Cleo Zenia Cheek. Calvin died May 11, 2000 in Burlington, Alamance Co., NC.
