George Washington9 Eaves II (Carrie Louise8 Lassiter, Louise (Lula) Norvella Wright7 Ayscue, Louisa Wright6 Allgood, John Bunyan5, Moses4, Edward3, William2, Edward1 Algood) was born in Epsom, Franklin Co., NC August 6, 1918. George died November 12, 2006 in Durham, Durham Co., NC. OBIT: Mr. George W. Eaves, Jr., 88, son of the late George W. Eaves, Sr. and Carrie Lou Lassiter Eaves, died Sunday morning at his home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Eaves was born and raised in Franklin County, and graduated from Duke University in 1950. After graduation from Duke, he founded Eaves Insurance Agency, now known as First Insurance Services. Mr. Eaves served in the US Army from 1941-1946, achieving rank of Captain, and fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He served on the Durham Board of Directors for First Union National Bank, and the Board of Adjustments for the City of Durham. Mr. Eaves was a member of the Durham Kiwanis Club, the Durham Merchants Association, the North Carolina Independent Insurance Agents, and the Society of CPCU. He worked on various committees with the Durham Chamber of Commerce, including the Special Projects Committee where he was past Chairman, the State Legislature Committee and the Nominating Committee. He was a member of Hope Valley Country Club, Grandfather Golf and Country Club in Linville, NC, the Duke Athletic Association and the Iron Duke Club. Mr. Eaves was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean P. Eaves of the home; daughters, Carolyn Davidson of Durham, Jeanmarie Curtis and her husband, Barry of Durham, Miriam Eaves Duffy and her husband Richard of New York, NY; grandchildren, Simon Curtis, Hannah Curtis, Carrie Davidson and Katie Davidson; brother, Jerry L. Eaves of Kingsport, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2:00 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be Rev. Betty Berghaus. Burial will be private at Maplewood Cemetery.
