Doris died June 27, 2013 in Franklinton, Franklin Co., NC. OBIT" Doris Mae Finch Hodges, age 82, of Franklinton, NC, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at her home.
A native of Franklin County, she was born on December 12, 1930, a daughter of the late James Thomas Finch, Sr. and Lillie Mae Debnam. Along with her parents, Doris is preceded in death by her husband of 21 years, George Hodges; her daughter, Sandra Shepard, eight brothers; and two sisters.
Described by many as a “wonderful cook,” Doris loved to help people in practical ways and did so selflessly. She was widely known for her generosity and kindness. Survivors include her sisters, Betty Jacobs of Hopewell, Virginia, and Patricia Bracknell James of Franklinton, NC; her brothers, Bunnie C. Finch Lucille of Wake Forest, NC, Jack Finch Suzanne of Raleigh, NC and Bobby Ray Finch Suranza of Raleigh, NC; numerous nieces and nephews; and most lovingly by her dachshund, “Breezy”.
A funeral service honoring Mrs. Hodges will be held Sunday, June 28, 2013 at 3:00PM in the Franklinton chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 504 E. Mason St., Franklinton NC, 27525. The family will receive friends, following the service.
She married George Edward Hodges October 3, 1975 in Colonial Heights, VA. George was born July 12, 1929 in Dunn Harnett Co., NC. George was the son of John Wesley Hodges and Nellie Byrd. George died February 7, 1997 in Petersburg, Dinwiddie Co., VA.
