Virginia died January 6, 2008 in Virginia Beach, Virginia Beach Co., VA. OBIT: Virginia Marshall Rogers Callahan, age 88, of Virginia Beach, VA, went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 6, 2008. She was an angel on earth for all who knew her and we were blessed to have had her with us for so many years. She was born in Mecklenburg County, VA, the daughter of Louie and John Rogers. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 56 years, James Gray Callahan, Jr.; her brothers, James Rogers, Powell Rogers, and Richard Rogers; and her sisters, Annie Strickler, Elva Smiley, and Hassie Leigh Coleman. An active member of Bayside Presbyterian Church, she joined Circle #6 group too many years ago to count and enjoyed numerous activities with the ladies of this fellowship. She was a lifetime member of Colonial Coast Girl Scouts and was a Girl Scout leader for 25 years installing strength, integrity, and independence in many young girls. Virginia volunteered at Bayside Hospital for many years, and, she and her husband enjoyed singing along with friends in the Sentara Choral Group. As the matriarch of her family she taught love, gardening, cooking, quilting, crocheting, and too many other talents to count. She is survived by many loving family members, her two sons, James Marshall Callahan and wife Jeanne, Charles Gray Callahan and his wife Betty; her three daughters, Margaret A. Jack and her predeceased husband Billy, Nancy E. Petree and her husband Billy, and Virginia Lynn Callahan; her six grandchildren, James V. Callahan, John M. Callahan and his wife Tracy, Mark E. Callahan and his wife Charm, Dr. Virginia E. Petree, Angela R. Petree, and Jessica E. Petree; and seven great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at the Hollomon Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, on Independence Blvd. The service will be held at Bayside Presbyterian Church on Independence Blvd. in Virginia Beach, Thursday, January 10, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. with a reception immediately following in the church social hall. A burial service will be held at Liberty Baptist Church in Skipwith, VA, on Friday, January 11, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. Viewing and visitation with the family will be prior to the service.
