An old Gene Autry song starts with the line "You Are my Sunshine" and ends with the line "Please don't take my Sunshine Away." John was a ray of sunshine in our lives and since his body was filled with pain, God chose to take our Sunshine away on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 3:45 A.M.
Johnny attended school in Ben Milam Elementary school, Barwise Middle School, and Rider High School in Wichita Falls, Texas, and Simi Valley High in Simi Valley, Ca.
He later moved to Oklahoma City where he became a licensed plumber. He was seriously injured in 1991 and has been retired since then. John is survived by his mother, Vinita Jo Stewart of Oklahoma City, OK: three brothers, John L. Foreman and wife Clestell and daughter Shanda, of McKinney, TX, Ben Stewart and wife Rita and daughter Kelly of Aberdeen, Scotland, and Joe W. Stewart with son Joe Martin Stewart and wife Mandy, Betsy Stewart Hunter and husband Josh, and Natalie Stewart of Oklahoma City, OK; three sons, West Williams and wife Celecia, Brandon Cox and like-a-daughter Rachael Malakar, and Shane Dougherty, all of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren; five step-sisters; Gwen Cox; and his cousin Tom Lowe and wife Karen of Durant, OK; along with one aunt, Sue Lowe of Frederick, OK, and one uncle, Wyndel Morton of Vernon, TX. John will always be remembered for his love of animals, especially his favorite dog, Zippo.
John was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Ray Dougherty, of Florida, and his step-father, Morris E. Stewart of Oklahoma City, OK.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Jim Melton who through his surgeries gave us the last eight years of John's life. Also, thanks to Billie Clarke and the other nurses of Lifeline Hospice who tended to his pain; and special friend Deborah Alexander, who helped care for him through all his many surgeries. And a special Thanks to Brother Johnny Timms who mentally and emotionally helped John travel the road from here to his heavenly home in peace and comfort without fear.
A graveside service will be held in Oklahoma City at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 23, 2012..
He married twice. He married Grace E Neal June 8, 1979 in Wichita, TX. Grace was born 1947.
