Glenna died August 26, 2013 in Springfield, IL. OBIT: Glenna Delores McKnelly, 81, of Flora, died at 4:24 p.m. Sunday, August 26, 2012, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, September 2 at Flora Community of Christ Church. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 2 at the church. Burial will be in Brush Creek Cemetery in Xenia. Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora is in charge of arrangements.
Glenna was born on March 9, 1931, in Clay County, to Burl and Lula (Hoover) Luttrell. She married James L. McKnelly on October 6, 1957, in Flora. He preceded her in death on December 21, 2009.
She was a woman of great faith who placed importance in raising her family and contributing time to others. She was a member of Flora Community of Christ Church, where she served as Book Steward for many years and had also been a Sunday School teacher. Throughout her 81 years, she attended every Brush Creek Reunion. Volunteer work was important to Glenna, beginning with her commitment to family as a Cub Scouts Den Mother. She was a member of Clay County Hospital Auxiliary, managing the Gift Box for 18 years. She contributed significant research to the city and county through her interest in ancestry and the Clay County Genealogical Society, as well as her appreciation of historic memorabilia. Glenna enjoyed sewing and knitting, gardening and reading.
Glenna is survived by her children, Delores Booker (Don), of Flora, Alan McKnelly (Tabitha), of Flora, and Steve McKnelly, of Clay City; five grandchildren, James Alan McKnelly, of Flora, Shanda Bowles, of Flora, Kaleb McKnelly, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Eli McKnelly, of Clay City, and Sydney McKnelly, of Clay City; one sister, Mary Ann Murray, of Gahanna, Ohio; and with many relatives who were close to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Burl and lula Luttrell, husband, James L. McKnelly, and a granddaughter, Kristen.
She married James Logan McKnelly October 6, 1957 in Flora, Clay Co., IL. James was born October 24,1928 in Bible Grove, Clay Co., IL. James was the son of Ancel McKnelly and Alice (__). James died December 21, 2009 in Louisville, Clay Co., IL.
Glenna Delores Luttrell and James Logan McKnelly had the following children:
