Edward died July 12, 2008 in Tucson, Pima Co., AZ. OBIT: Edward P. Murray August 5, 1929 - July 12, 2008 Ed was born to Dorothy A. and Garland A. Murray in Richmond, VA. Ed and his mother, after an initial two year stay in Arizona, moved to Arizona for good in 1946 after Ed's graduation from John Marshall High School in Richmond. Ed enrolled in the University of Arizona where he met RosaLee Ackley. They married on December 29, 1951. He earned his B.A. from the University of Arizona in 1952. After beginning his teaching career with one year at Safford High, Arizona, Ed was offered an opportunity to work for the U.S. Government in Germany with the Refugee Relief Program. Chances to visit Paris, Vienna, and East Berlin (before the Berlin Wall went up) were wonderful for a history teacher. After teaching in Eloy, Arizona, Ed moved to Sunnyside High in 1957 where he taught history for 28 years. He concluded his teaching career at Desert View High, chairing the Social Studies department before retiring in 1987. Ed authored the intriguing historic booklet "Camels to the Colorado." Ed was always interested in community involvement. He served as a Republican precinct committeeman, helped found the Rosemont West Neighborhood Association and, after retirement, volunteered as a hearing office for Pima County Small Claims Court. Ed was an active member of Christ Church United Methodist, including being a Lay Speaker, Adult Sunday School teacher, and serving on several boards and commissions. He narrated the Christmas Pageant "Follow the Star" for many years. He served in leadership with the Southern Arizona Scottish Society, Pima County Retired Teachers Association, and Tucson Sunny Sams. As part of his Scottish heritage and involvement, Ed originated the idea for the adoption of an Arizona state tartan. Ed is survived by his wife of 56 years, RosaLee and three sons, Lee of Lacey, WA, Steve (Judy) of Arvada, CO, Brian (Penny) of Hanahan, SC; grandchildren, Jenny (Kanika), Daniel, Vicky (and their mother Sue), Emily (and her mother Kim), Christine, Andrew; step-grandchildren, Matthew and Katelin. Memorials may be made to Christ Church United Methodist. Interment was at Southlawn Cemetery on July 17, 2008. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church United Methodist, 655 N. Craycroft, on Monday August 11, 2008 at 6:00 P.M.
