OBIT: Doris Mary Hoopengarner went home to the Lord on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008. She was a resident of the Cannon Inn for the past 13 months, where she was loved and protected by the entire staff. She was born Dorothy May Feuchter to Anna K. Beard and Edgar J. Feuchter, on March 4, 1921. She was adopted as an infant by Marion and Mary Harbaugh that same year and was renamed Doris Mary Harbaugh,
She had four children by her first husband, Ronald Holmes of Lake County, Mary Vandergriff of Terre Haute, Larry Holmes of Clinton and Carol Knoll of Terre Haute. She loved all her children very deeply and unconditionally.
She met and married Harold “Rex” Rooksberry in 1966, whom she spent an amazing five years with until his death. She always held a special place in her heart for him.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Max, who passed away in 2002 after a loving 30-year marriage.
She had many friends whom she missed deeply who proceeded her in death especially Helen Bryant and Wanda Potts, lifelong friends. She is now again with them in the presence of God. She also has a wonderful friend, Dee Bandy, who spent hours conversing with her in her last months. She held dear these conversations that meant so much to her.
She had 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She was able to see her newborn great-great-grandson while in the hospital, which was a wonderful moment for her. Our mother will be greatly missed and always in our hearts.
She married three times. She married Max Hoopengarner. Max was born March 19, 1927 in Terre Haute, Vigo Co., IN. Max was the son of George Hoopengarner and Olive West. Max died January 6, 2002 in Terre Haute, Vigo Co., IN. She married Valentine Joseph Holmes December 5,1941 in Terre Haute, Vigo Co., IN. Valentine was born February 14,1916 in Attica, IN. Valentine was the son of Waldo B Holmes and Ceila Ann Coffeen. Valentine died December 6, 1997 in Terre Haute, Vigo Co., IN. She married Harold (Rex) Lee Rooksberry 1966. Harold was born April 27, 1913. Harold died November 30,1970 in Terre Haute, Vigo Co., IN.
Doris Mary Harbaugh and Valentine Joseph Holmes had the following children:
