OBIT: Christine Wood of Decatur died Monday, March 8, 2006 from complications of a fall and stroke. The youngest of seven children born to Martha Florence Biggers Wood and William David Wood, Christine was raised on a farm in Turner County, Georgia. She was an extraordinary, self-sufficient woman in an era when this was uncommon. Following graduation from Sycamore High School, she attended Norman College in Norman Park, Ga. She later moved to the Atlanta area and earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education and completed all the course work for a Ph.D. A career high school Business Education teacher, Christine retired from the Fulton County Board of Education in 1989. At the time of her death, Christine was serving as Chapter President of Beta Sigma Pi sorority. A faithful member for many years, she held most leadership position at the chapter and city-wide levels.

She was a long-time member of the Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church and, until recently, was active in the Ruth Sunday School Class. Over the years, she participated in many church sponsored activities including Missions.

Stemming from her curiosity of the world, Christine had a passion for travel and visited many places and cultures different from her own. Those who knew her best admired her independence, intelligence and commitment to family and friends. Christine was the last remaining member of her immediate family.

Predeceasing her were her mother and father as well as sisters and brothers: Ruby Mauldin, Howell Wood, Dura Kate Magill, Ralph Wood, W.D. Wood and Wendell Wood.

She is survived by ten nieces and nephews and fourteen grand nieces and nephews.
