Edward died October 18, 2001 in Iowa City, Johnson Co., IA. Obit: Edward Luverne Hatcher, 76, of What Cheer, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at the Mercy Hosptial in Iowa City.

Luverne was born Sept. 26, 1925, near Delta, the son of Floyd and Blanche Wadsworth Hatcher. He graduated from What Cheer High School in 1943. He farmed southwest of What Cheer all of his life.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oskaloosa, and a board member of Indianapolis and St. Joseph's Cemeteries near What Cheer. He was a former member of the What Cheer Lions, Wa-Ke-Ma Motorcycle Club, Gold Wing Road Riders Association, and the Retread Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed collecting toy tractors, watching Nascar racing, his motorcycles and his grand children.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta Hatcher of What Cheer, one son Ed Hatcher of Grinnell, one daughter Sheila Brune of West Point, four grandchildren Michael and Jason Hatcher, Josh Blomgren, and Lorella Brune, and one great-grandson, Kade Hatcher.

"He was preceded in death by his parents.

"Funeral Mass was held Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oskaloosa with Rev. Robert Busher officiating. Burial was in the Indianapolis Cemetery near What Cheer.

"Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Catholic Church or the What Cheer Fire and Rescue Unit

He married Loretta Armstrong April 12, 1945 in What Cheer, Keokuk Co., IA. Loretta was born May 2, 1925 in Millersburg, IA. Loretta died May 22, 2006 in Oskaloosa, Mahaska Co., IA. Obit: Loretta Hatcher, 81, of Oskaloosa, and formerly of rural What Cheer, died Monday, May 22, 2006, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Thomas Spiegel officiating. Following the funeral, as was her wish, she has donated her body to the University of Iowa College of Anatomy. A Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Bates Funeral Chapel, and visitation with the family to follow that service until 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Church.
