Herbert died October 24, 1998 in Phenix City, Russell Co., AL. Obit: 25 October 1998 Herbert O. Newsome, 82, of 2201 Twenty-Sixth Street, Phenix City, dies Saturday October 24,1998 at The Medical Center Columbus, Ga. Funeral services will be held 2:pm Monday at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, withe burial in Lakeview Memory Gardens. Rev William Rodziwicz will officiate. Visitation will be this evening from6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the funeral home. Mr Newsome was born September 29, 1916 in Phenix City, the son of Rosa Lavada Statham Newsome and Joseph F Newsome. He was a Loom Fixer at the Columbus Fiber Mill for many years. Mr Newsome was a World War II veteran serving in the Coast Guard, and was a member of the First Christian Church of Phenix City. Survivors include two sons, Phillip O. Newsome, Smith's, Al and Bryan J. Newsome of Ellerslie, Ga; three daughters, Judith A Rodziwicz, Pensacola, Fl, Virginia L Grant, Lawton, OK and donna D Kinney, Sarasota, FL; a brother, Benjamin O Newsome, Columbus; three sisters, Wilma L Whiddom, Columbus, Zera A Hand, Stockton, CA and Violet I Stringfellow, Phenix City; 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He married Lettie Adams June 15, 1941 in Phenix City, Russell Co., AL. Lettie was born abt 1916. Lettie died abt 1986 in Phenix City, Russell Co., AL.
