He married Mildred (Mickey) Marie Wilkey July 10, 1957. Mildred was born April 20, 1934 in Adairsville, Bartow Co., GA. Mildred was the daughter of William Wilkey and Stella Payne. Mildred died February 4, 2009 in Phenix City, Russell Co., AL. OBIT: Mildred Wilkey Wallace, 74, of Phenix City, AL passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at VistaCare Hospice at Franciscian Woods. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. EST Friday, February 6, 2009 at Vance Memorial Chapel, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Toby Newsome officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. EST prior to the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Wallace was born April 20, 1934 in Adairsville, GA, daughter of the late William Wilkey and Stella Payne Wilkey. She loved her doll collection, animals, and cooking for her family. Mrs. Wallace attended Midway Baptist Church in Smiths Station, AL. She is preceded in death by her husband Dempsey Wallace, four sisters, and two brothers. She is survived by a daughter, Debbie Murphy and husband Gerald of Calhoun, GA; three sons, Johnny Newsome of Seale, AL, Jeff Newsome of Phenix City, AL and Michael Newsome of Pensacola, FL; a brother, Bill Wilkey of Calhoun GA; 11 grandchildren, Chris Olson, Ali Morris, Jason Klein, Leigh Baxter, Angela Klein, Caleb Klein, Hailey Klein, Kaitlynne Newsome, Madison Newsome, Peyton Newsome and Ryan Howell; five great-grandchildren, Lexi Baxter, Lainey Morris, Bo Baxter, Annabell Klein and Jared Klein; many nieces, nephews and loving friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VistaCare Hospice at Franciscan Woods.
