Woodrow died October 4, 1995 in Austin, Travis Co., TX. OBIT: Dr. Woodrow W. Bledsoe, beloved father, grandfather, Christian and teacher, age 73, of Austin, died Wednesday, October 4, 1995.

Professor Bledsoe, better known to most as Woody, received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Utah in 1948 and his Ph.D. in 1953 from the University of California at Berkeley. After holding a position as lecturer at U.C. Berkeley (1951-1953), he became a research scientist at Sandia Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He became head of the Mathematics Department (1956-1960). From 1960-1966 he worked as a research scientist at a small company, Panoramic Research in Palo Alto, California; he served as President during 1963-1965.

Woody moved to the University of Texas at Austin in January 1966 as a full professor of mathematics; he served as Acting Chairman from 1967-1969, and Chairman from 1973-1975. In 1967, Woody also assumed a professorship in computer science when that department was formed. He held the Ashbel Smith Professorship of Mathematics and Computer Science from 1981-1987, and had held the Peter O'Donnell Jr. Chair in Computing Systems from 1987 to present, and was also a Professor Emeritus of the University.

In 1991 Professor Bledsoe received the IJCAI Distinguished Service Award, and was presented with the American Association of Artificial Intelligence's first Milestone Award for his work in Automatic Theorem Proving. He was also a founding vice president of the Microelectronic and Computer Corporation (MCC) from 1984 to 1987.

In addition to his many professional activities, Woody had a long and dedicated service to his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He had dedicated much of his life to the servive of his Lord and fellow man, through tireles untold hours of love and devotion, both through his many lay- ministry positions at church and through many other private acts.

Woody was also involved in various civic and community organizations, and was a 20 year supporter and participant of the Boy Scouts of America, Capital Area Council.

Woody had been the cornerstone of his family for many years and will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Margaret Gail, and son, Gregory Kent Bledsoe in 1985.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Bledsoe; daughter, Pamela Bledsoe of Austin; son, Lance W. Bledsoe and wife, Barbara of Austin; brother, Charles M. Bledsoe of Austin; sisters, Sue Parrish of Utah, and Mary Ellen Limke of Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Krista Pritchett and husband, James, Heather Nelson and fiance, Shawn O'Gorman, Kenneth Bledsoe, Bethany Reeder, Natalie, Allison, Lindsey and Meredith Bledsoe; and two great-grandchildren, Geoffrey and Ashlan Pritchett.

The family will receive visitors Friday, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services are Saturday, 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1000 E. Rutherford Lane. Burial will follow in Austin Memorial Park.

He married Virginia Noorgaard. Virginia was born October 19, 1920. Virginia died February 6, 2006 in Austin, Travis Co., TX. Obit: Virginia, 85, retired homemaker, of Austin, formerly of Salt Lake City, died Monday. Services 3 p.m. today, Austin Memorial Park. Arrangements by Cook-Walden/Chapel of the Hills.

Virginia Norgaard Bledsoe, 85, passed away peacefully in Austin, Tex., on Feb. 6, 2006.

Beloved by many, Virginia was preceeded in death by her loving husband, Dr. Woodrow W. Bledsoe, her daughter Margaret Gayle Bledsoe and son Gregory Kent Bledsoe. Survivors include her children, Pamela Bledsoe of Austin, and Lance and Barbara of Austin, as well as the following grandchildren and great grandchildren: Krista and James Pritchett of Summers, Ark. and their children - Geoffrey, Ashlan, Woody and Emily; Heather and Shawn O'Gorman of Bulverde, Tex. and son Shawn, Jr.; Kenneth and Nona Bledsoe of Fayetteville, Ark. and their children Jules, Bobbie and Josiah; Natalie Bledsoe of Austin and her daughters Abigail and Brooke; Allison and Benjamin Hepworth of Austin and their children Travis and Kinsey; Bethany Bledsoe of Portland, Oreg.; Lindsey Bledsoe of Austin; Merideth Bledsoe of Austin and Rachael Bledsoe of Austin.

She was laid to rest Feb. 8, 2006 next to Woody and son Greg in Austin Memorial Park. May she rest in peace, with the knowledge of our love for her.
