He married Letha D. Whitaker. Letha was born June 25, 1834 in Moxksville, Davidson Co., NC. Letha died after 1900. The 1880 census shows Letha as widowed.

William (Dick) L. Hutchens and Letha D. Whitaker had the following children:

1394 iv. Lora B. Hutchens was born in Moxksville, Davidson Co., NC 1856.

+ 1395 v. Henry A. Hutchens was born 1858.

1396 vi. Clinton Hutchens was born in Moxksville, Davidson Co., NC 1860. Clinton died February 1880 in Moxksville, Davidson Co., NC.

+ 1397 vii. William (Artie) D. A. Hutchens was born May 18, 1861.
