Doris died December 19, 2005 in Oskaloosa, Mahaska Co., IA. Obit: oris L. Towns, 83, a resident of the Long Term Care Center of the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella, and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Monday, December 19, 2005, at the care center. She was born June 24, 1922 in Mahaska County, the daughter of William Roy and Mary Hazel Adams Padgett. She graduated from the Oskaloosa High School. Early in her adult life she worked at the old Continental Overall Factory for a time. On February 6, 1942, she was united in marriage to Harold D. Towns at Lancaster, Missouri, and he died September 1, 1972. Together they farmed; first near Lacey, then near Oskaloosa; then in the Keswick area; and then southwest of Albia for many years. Doris also worked at the Tower Lanes bowling alley in Albia and Chamberlain Manufacturing in Albia. While on the farm, she also grew a large vegetable garden. She moved to Oskaloosa in the late 1970's, and worked for a time at Elmhurst Country Club and also Pella Country Club. She was a former member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Oskaloosa. She enjoyed ballroom dancing; quilting; fishing; traveling in her motor home; and had been active with her husband in Angus cattle raising associations. Doris was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Her family includes 4 daughters: Elaine (& Les) Anderson of Austin, Texas, Ellen Schraeder (& her special friend, Jim Rostetler) of Halstead, Kansas, Edna Towns of Oskaloosa, and Este (& Bob) Thompson of Imperial, Missouri; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a brother: Raymond (& Velma) Padgett of Eddyville; and a sister: Fairy Patterson of Oskaloosa.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son: Allen LeRoy Towns; a grandson: Micheal Thompson; a sister: Virginia Brink, and an infant sister, Dorothy Padgett.

Funeral services for Doris Towns will be held Friday, December 23, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery at Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin Thursday after 10 a.m., and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 6:30 ? 8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.

She married Harold Dean Towns February 6, 1942 in Lancaster, Schuyler Co., MO. Harold was born February 19, 1921. Harold was the son of Homer D. Towns and Eva (___). Harold died September 1, 1972.
