OBIT: Frances Marie Moore, 86, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, July 7, 2008, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was
born Aug. 1, 1921, at Oskaloosa, the daughter of Thomas James and Minnie Emily Smith Padgett. On Sept. 18, 1939, she was united in marriage
to Lewis Harlan Moore at Lancaster, Mo., and he died Aug. 29, 1997. She worked as a cook at the old Canary Cottage in Oskaloosa for 18
years, and then owned the Canteen restaurant for a time. Also Frances was a homemaker and helped raise her family. Later she did
housecleaning in private homes in Oskaloosa, and lastly worked at McKee Coins helping with coin shows. Frances enjoyed bingo and square
dancing, and baking, and was known for her cinnamon rolls and fry bread. She was a member of the Lady Eagles and the V.F.W. Auxiliary, and a
former member of the Women of the Moose; and she had helped with P.T.A. and Girl Scouts. Her family includes three sons and
their wives: Lewis Harlan (& Marva) Moore, of Saldia, Calif., Gary (and Connie) Moore, of Oskaloosa, and Keith (and Alice) Moore, of
Fremont; five daughters: Bonnie Newell, Dixie Thompson, Shirley Stocker (and Clarence Kearns), and Sharon (and Bill) Barnes, all of
Oskaloosa, and Brenda (and Richard Shappell, of What Cheer; 23 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a
sister and her husband: Joyce (and Bill) Harris, of What Cheer; and two brothers and their wives: Jerry (and Rosalie) Padgett, of La Crosse,
Wis., and David (and Janet) Padgett, of Boone. Besides her husband, Frances was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter:
Sherrill Moore; three grandchildren: Michael Thompson, Scott Ferns, Shelly Ferns; a great-granddaughter; two brothers: Donnie and Tom
Padgett Jr.; three sisters: Isabelle Brown, Jean Luzadder, and Linda Fairchild; and a son-in-law, Dean Newell. Funeral services
will be held Thursday, July 10, at 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Burial will be
in the Woods Cemetery near Lacey. Visitation will begin Wednesday after noon, and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Wednesday from
5 to 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice for the new hospice house.
She married Lewis Harlan Moore Septembre 18;, 1939 in Schuyler Co., MO. Lewis was born July
31,1914. Lewis was the son of Ray A Moore and Elizabeth A Hughes. Lewis died August 1, 1997.
