Herman died August 6, 2007 in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS. OBIT: Services for Herman "Stubb" Smith, of Brookhaven, are 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Macedonia Baptist Church in Brookhaven with burial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Drive is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Smith, 85, died Aug. 6, 2007, at King's Daughters Medical Center. He was born in Lincoln County on June 14, 1922, to Noah Smith and Lou Smith Smith.
He was a retired equipment operator with Oddee Smith and Sons and a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, Virgil Smith, Trenton Bill Smith and J.B. Smith; his sister, Lois Smith; and his granddaughter, Lisa Bullock.
Survivors are his wife, Virgie Smith, of Brookhaven; his daughters, Diane Sumerlin and husband Lou, of Mobile, Ala., Wanda Bullock and husband Jerry, and Pam Price and husband Jimmy, all of Brookhaven; his sisters, Juanita Castilaw, of Brookhaven, and Earline Britt, of Magee; his seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He married Virgie Smith Januay 17, 1944 in Lincoln Co., MS. Virgie was born September 15, 1928 in Lincoln Co., MS. Virgie was the daughter of Ervin Smith and Mary Reed. Virgie died September 17, 2014 in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS. OBIT: Mrs. Virgie Smith passed away at King Daughter’s Hospital in Brookhaven on September 17, 2014. She was born on September 15, 1927 in Lincoln County, MS to the late Ervin Smith and Mary Reed Smith.
Mrs. Smith was a lifetime member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She was a devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herman “Stubb” Smith, her daughter Diane Smith, her granddaughter Lisa Gail Bullock., and 3 brothers and 6 sisters.
She is survived by daughters, Wanda Bullock and husband Jerry, and Pam Price and husband Jimmy, both of Brookhaven; 6 Grandchildren, Monica Bullock, Dwayne Bullock, Leigh Ann Norton, Jamie Price, Darren Case and Heather Breeding; and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Macedonia Baptist Church, Brookhaven, MS. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home, 894 Natchez Drive, Brookhaven on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. and will she will lie in state at Macedonia Baptist Church on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. till service time at 3:00 p.m.
Herman (Stub) Smith and Virgie Smith had the following children:
