Robert was a WWII U.S. Army veteran where he received a Purple Heart. Robert worked for Burns Wholesale, Yellow Cab, and also worked construction.
He leaves behind his wife, Helen Mae (Thacker) Allgood; his children, Sharon and her husband Jerry Hayden, and Mike and his wife Judy Allgood. He also has 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and 3 sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Lee Allgood Jr.; a daughter, Vickie Allgood Raper; 2 grandchildren; 3 brothers; 2 sisters.
Services will be held at the Day Funeral Home today at 1:00 p.m. with Brother Troy Shaffer officiating. Burial will take place at Valhalla Memory Gardens where Military Rites will be conducted.
He married Helen Mae Thacker. Helen was born Januray 11, 1923. Helen died April 25, 2009 in Bloomington, Monroe Co., IN. OBIT: Helen Mae Allgood, age 86, of Bloomington, died Saturday afternoon at the Monroe Hospital.
Born January 11, 1923, in Owen County, she was the daughter of Calvin L. and Ethel (Meadows) Thacker.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael Wayne and Judy Allgood, of Bloomington; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Kay and Jerry Hayden of Bloomington; one brother, Guy Harold Thacker of Bloomington; ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Allgood, Sr. on August 26, 2008; one son, Robert Lee Allgood Jr.; one daughter, Vickie Allgood Raper; two grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at Day Funeral Home Chapel at 10:30 a.m. with Brother Troy Shaffer officiating. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
