Verne died January 7, 2010 in Cartersville, Bartow Co., GA. OBIT: Verne Edward Allgood, 93, of Cartersville, GA, formerly of Marietta, GA died Thursday January 7, 2010.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday January 9, 2010 at East Cobb United Methodist Church in Marietta, GA with Dr. Brian Germano officiating.
Body will be at the church from 12 noon to 1:45 P.M.
Burial will follow at Marietta Camp Ground Cemetery in Marietta, GA.
Mr. Allgood was born July 1, 1916 to the late Lillian Barnes Allgood and Henry E. Allgood. He attended the old Camp Ground Academy beginning in 1922 and was a graduate of Blackwell High School class of 1935.
Mr. Allgood attended Marsh Business College in 1938 and was employed by Davison-Paxon in Atlanta, GA and later by United Motors. He was a veteran of WW II and joined the Air Force in 1952 completing his military service.
Mr. Allgood was employed in the Civil Service at Dobbins Air Force Base retiring July 31, 1970 after 28 years of federal service from a Civilian employment.
He was a member of East Cobb United Methodist Church for 77 years serving on several boards and committees.
Survivors include his wife Mary Ellen Simpson Allgood; son and daughter-in-law Larry & Eva Allgood all of Cartersville, Ga; two grandsons and their wives Lee & Nicole Allgood, Lucas & Kayla Allgood; four great grandchildren Lillee Allgood, Tyler Allgood, Levi Allgood and Lala Allgood.
Family will receive friends from 12 Noon - 1:45 P.M. at the church prior to service on Saturday, January 9, 2010.
He married Mary Ellen Simpson. Mary was born April 7, 1920. Mary died April 23, 2010. OBIT: Mrs. Allgood was born on April 7, 1920 and passed away on Friday, April 23, 2010.
Mrs. Allgood was a resident of Cartersville, Georgia at the time of her passing.
Mrs. Allgood attended the Marietta Campground Academy; Massy College of Business; The Professional School of Medical Technology where she received a certificate from the Atlanta Area Technical School.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Monday at East Cobb United Methodist Church in Marietta with Dr. Brian Germano officiating. The body will lie-in-state 1 hour before the service. Burial will be in the Campground Cemetery. Family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 pm Sunday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta.
