He married twice. He married Norma Velma Zoepfel Bodie January 21, 1980 in Las Vegas, Clark Co., NV. Norma was born March 17, 1913 in Davenport, Scott Co, IA. Norma was the daughter of Walter R. Zoepfel and Emma Fischer. Norma died November 26, 2006 in Marshalltown, Marshall Co., IA. OBIT: Norma V. Nichols, 93, of Marshalltown, died Nov. 26, 2006, at Grandview Heights Care Center, where she made her home for the past nine years.
Following cremation, memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday from the Estel-Perrin-Avey Chapel, with Jerry McAdoo officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home is in charge of her arrangements. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
She was born in Davenport, Iowa, on March 17, 1913, the daughter of Walter and Emma Fisher Zoepfel. Raised and educated in Davenport, she graduated from high school there. Her employment began with Northwestern Bell and that brought her to Marshalltown, where she later worked for Spurgeons Department Store and as a hostess at Thunderbird Restaurant. Mrs. Nichols retired in 1978. Her first marriage was to Norman Bodie, and he preceded her in death in 1967. In 1980 she married Russell Nichols, and he preceded her in death in 2003.
Norma was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Women of the Moose. She enjoyed their time at Lake Ponderosa, fishing and boating, and the dancing and social activities at the Moose Lodge.
She is survived by four step-children Jon Nichols of Colorado Springs, Colo., Charlotte Wood of Ankeny, Larry Nichols of Marshalltown and Jim Nichols of Iowa City; sister-in-law Helen Zoepfel of Davenport; three nieces; and three nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two husbands; one sister; and three brothers. n
