Nancie died January 5, 2011 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. OBIT: ..........Nancie Yeatts Oltarzewski, age 72 of Henry Street, Gretna died Wednesday, January 5, 2011 in Gretna Health & Rehab. Born August 8, 1938 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late, Albert (Jack) Amos Yeatts and Edna Simpson Yeatts. She was predeceased by two sisters, Jerri Jones and Theresa Custer and two brothers, Garcia Yeatts and Ramsey (Booty) Yeatts. Nancie was a member of Gretna Christian Church and was a retired employee of Pittsylvania County Schools. Nancie began working at Gretna High School as a teacher’s aide in 1967. Two years later, she became the main office secretary, a position she kept until 2000. She was a favorite with students from start to finish. Gretna’s 1975 yearbook was dedicated to her. “Her generosity and enthusiasm know no bounds, and just being near her makes us see the brighter side of life,” the dedication reads. “We see her giving of her time and energy again and again-at football games collecting tickets, playing volleyball, selling popcorn, and supervising students-and we wonder how she does it all.” “She spreads joy and happiness in all that she does, and her smile is ever-present, radiating sunshine.” Mrs. Oltarzewski was also active in her community. It made her feel good to do things for others. She was the kind of person who would much rather do for others than have something done for herself. She was a member of the PACE Club, where she was the top luminary salesperson. She was a former member of the Lions Club, served on the Gretna Town Council, served as Gretna Vice-Mayor, was vice president of the Gretna Merchants, Association and was a member of the Pittsylvania County Secretarial Association. Nancie has collected door-to-door for the American Cancer Fund and was a top earner for the American Heart Association. Nancie was a member of the Gretna Clowns and was affectionately known as “Fancy Nancie.” She is survived by her husband, Dale Oltarzewski of the residence; one son, Mark Allgood and wife, Yvonne of Chatham; three daughters, Paige Hite of Gretna, Tracie Shelton and husband Steve of Franklin, TN, and Debra A. Waters and husband, Richard of Blairs; one step-son Daniel J. Oltarzewski and wife Brenda of Waterford, WI.; three brothers, Garland Yeatts of Gretna, Ryland Yeatts of Alexandria and Richard Yeatts of Gretna; one sister, Margaret Angell and husband, Richard of Roanoke; two sister-in-laws, Roseann Yeatts and Frances Yeatts; 5 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and a nephew. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Gretna by Rev. R.G. Rowland. Burial will follow in the Yeatts Family Cemetery.
