10289. Roland Franklin8 Allgood (Richard Franklin7, William Turner6, Creed A5, George4, Spencer3, William John2, Edward1) was born in Norfolk, Norfolk Co., VA April 23, 1920. Roland died Apiil 5, 2009 in Chesapeake, Chesapeake Cio, VA. OBIT: Roland F. Allgood, Norfolk Fire Department (Ret.), went to be with his Lord on Sunday April 5, 2009, with his family by his side.
Roland was born April 23, 1920 in Norfolk, VA to Richard Franklin and Annie Hendricks Allgood. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the 34th Infantry Division, and was awarded the Bronze Star for Bravery under fire.
After the war, he returned home and joined the Norfolk Fire Department. He rose to the rank of Captain, and served as the Departmental Chaplain for many years. He retired in 1982 after serving 36 years of distinguished service.
Roland was a member of the Tabernacle Church of Norfolk for 57 years. He held several positions including Sunday School Teacher, Trustee, Treasurer, and also served on the Board of Elders. His life long mission was "To Know Christ and to make Him Known."
Roland is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley B. Allgood, who he loved dearly and faithfully. He is also survived by his children, Joy C. Allgood of Milford, MA, S. Lynn Delin and her husband Ron of Chesapeake, VA, and Lt. R. Franklin Allgood, Jr. and his wife Beverly and their children, Allison Joy and Andrew Franklin also of Chesapeake, VA. Roland is also survived by his younger brother, Lloyd C. (Bud) Allgood and his wife Sue of Norfolk, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at Rosewood Memorial Park on Thursday, April 9, 2009, at 11 a.m., followed by a celebration of Roland's life at the Tabernacle Church of Norfolk, 7000 Granby Street at 1 p.m.
He married Shirley Elizabethj Brpwm August 18,1956 in Norfolk, Norfolk Co., VA. Shirley died June 23, 2022.
