Doris died October 7, 2013 in Yadkinville, Yadkin Co., NC. OBIT: Mrs. Doris Atwood Westcott, 86, passed away Monday, October 07, 2013 at her home. Mrs. Westcott was born August 31, 1927 in Yadkin County to Sydney and Ellen Dinkins Atwood. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Westcott was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Westcott; a son, Dennis McQueen; a sister, JoAnn Griffin; and two brothers, Homer and Gene Atwood. She is survived by her two children, Billy (Stacey) McQueen and Tabetha (Trent) Dobbins; five grandchildren, River and Chase Dobbins and Vickie, Carla, and J.J.; and a niece, to whom she raised as her own, Marjorie (Tom) Toma, and their children, John & Natalee Toma. A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 4:00PM at Forbush Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Joe Souther officiating.
She married Elmer Rivers Westcott July 29, 1949 in Yadkinville, Yadkin Co., NC. Elmer was born February 3,1928 in Miami, Dade Co., FL. Elmer was the son of Elmer Lee Westcott and Ruth Albury. Elmer died December 19, 2002 in Yadkinville, Yadkin Co., NC. OBIT: Mr. Elmer Rivers Westcott, 74, of old U.S. 421 Highway East passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 3, 1928, in Miami, Fla., to the late Elmer Lee and Ruth Albury Westcott. He worked for 26 years with the Florida Power and Light Co., and was retired with 10 years of service from the town of Yadkinville water plant. Mr. Westcott was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Doris Atwood Westcott of the home; his niece, great-niece, and great-nephews, whom he raised as his own children, Marjorie Atwood Toma of Advance, Billy McQueen and Dennis McQueen, both of Yadkinville, and Tabetha M. Dobbins of Hickory; great-great-niece and -nephews, Chase Dobbins, Zachary Smith, Natalie Toma and John Toma; and many other loving relatives and friends. A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, at the Forbush Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Jesse Bowman. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 21, at Gentry Family funeral Home in Yadkinville.
