William died April 5, 2010 in Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, LA. OBIT: William Sidney "Billy" Allgood died Monday, April 5, 2010, in Baton Rouge, where he had recently moved to be near his son and his son's family. Before that, Mr. Allgood had lived most of the past 42 years in Jennings. Born July 20, 1922, in Yazoo City, Miss., to J. Samuel Allgood and Gussie Wood Allgood, Mr. Allgood grew up in and lived most of his young adult life in Yazoo City, later living for periods in Jackson, Miss., as well as Baton Rouge and Jennings. Mr. Allgood served during World War II in the U.S. Army's 4th Ranger Battalion. Mr. Allgood fought in North Africa and in the invasions of Sicily and Italy. Wounded at the Battle of Anzio, Italy, he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for bravery. As a young man, Mr. Allgood studied at Mississippi State University, then returned to academia later in life to earn his bachelor of arts degree in history in 1981 from McNeese State University, graduating magna cum laude. Mr. Allgood was married to Sue Fullilove Allgood, who died in April 2007. He is survived by two children, his son, Davis B. "Pepper" Allgood, of Baton Rouge, married to Marlene Krousel Allgood, and a daughter, Dr. Ann A. Berry, of Maryville, Tenn., married to Ross W. Berry. He leaves three grandchildren, William Eric Allgood, Maria Elena Allgood and Sean Ross Berry. Mr. Allgood had three brothers who predeceased him, Frank Bradford Allgood, James Davis Allgood and Edward Gordon Allgood, each of whom received Purple Hearts and other decorations for their service in World War II. Mr. Allgood was a loving father and grandfather, a wonderful friend and a brave and valiant patriot. He married Sue Fullilove. Sue died April 2007.
