Donald died October 6, 2008 in Canton, Fulton Co., IL. OBIT: Donald Gene DeLong, 75, of 250 S. Main St. Apt. 217, Canton, passed away Monday, October 6, 2008 at 7:00 pm at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home, Canton.
Born January 22, 1933, in Canton, IL, the son of Edward Frank and Eunice Audrey (Conrad) DeLong, he married Phyllis Marie Barnes on October 11, 1997. She died April 12, 2007.
Also preceding him in death were his parents and one sister.
Surviving are one daughter, Laura (Mark) Plotts of Cuba; one son, Mike (Vicki) DeLong of Cuba; five grandchildren, Beau and Nikki DeLong and Mikaya, Mark Jr, and Tyler Plotts; one great-grandson, Tanner; two sisters, Barbara (Wallace) Danner of Canton and Marilyn (Robert) Whitaker of Little Rock, AK; and several nieces and nephews.
Donald worked for International Harvester for 30 years, retiring January 31, 1985. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canton and the Canton American Legion Post #16. He was a US Army veteran serving in the Korean War.
Services will be Friday, October 10th at 11:00 am at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton with Rev. Rick Atchley officiating. Burial, with military rites, will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Canton. Visitation will be Thursday, October 9th from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
He married Phylliss Marie Barnes November 11, 1997 in Canton, Fulton Co., IL. Phylliss was born November 27, 1935 in Farmington, fulton Co., IL. Phylliss was the daughter of Russell Barnes and Louise Lockwood. Phylliss died April 12, 2007 in Canton, Fulton Co., IL. OBIT: Phyllis Marie DeLong, 71, Maple Manor Apts. Canton went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 1:10pm at Graham Hospital, Canton.
Born November 27, 1935 in Farmington to Russell and Louise (Lockwood) Barnes, she first married Michael Barnett who is surviving. She later married Wayne Van Order and then Donald Gene DeLong. She is survived by her husband, Donald DeLong.
Also surviving are three sons, Steve (Debbie) Barnett of Raleigh, NC, Kevin (Becky) VanOrder of Canton and Allen (Saleana) Barnett of Bourbonnais; one step-son, Mike (Vicki) DeLong of Cuba and two step-daughters, Laura (Mark) Plotts of Cuba and Yvonne (Dan) Morey of Grand Rapids, MI; seven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one brother, Ralph (Rozanna) Barnes of Goodfield and one sister, Lucille (Ronald) Henderson of McAlpin, FL.
She is preceded in death by her parents and 2nd husband, Wayne VanOrder.
She started a career in nursing, later becoming a homemaker. She was of the Baptist Faith.
Services will be Monday, April 16th at 10:00 am at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton with Pastor Rick Atchley officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, April 15th from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Canton. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
