Doris died November 8, 2014 in Henderson, Henderson Co., KY. OBIT: Doris P. Burgess, age 93, of Waverly, Kentucky passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Red Banks Nursing Home in Henderson, KY.
Doris was born October 17, 1921 to Bart and Eva (Parrish) Goff Bennett.
She married Ancil Lewis Burgess on May 1, 1983 in Kentucky. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2009.
She always enjoyed seeing family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and reading the Bible.
Doris is survived by her son: Danny Daugherty and wife Linda of Uniontown, KY; a brother: Wesley Bennett and wife Wanda of Henderson, KY; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father: Delbert Goff, three sisters: Opal, Ima, and Helen, and a brother: Nolen.
A funeral service for Doris Burgess will be at 1 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2014 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, IL with visitation from 12 p.m. (Noon) until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Bunker Cemetery, Rinard.
She married twice. She married Ancil Lewis Burgess May 1, 1983 in Flat Gap, Johnson Co., KY. Ancil was born July 16,1919 in Wayne Co., IL. Ancil was the son of Lewis Mason Burgess and Laura Etta Henson. Ancil died March 12, 2009 in Morganfield, Union Co., KY. OBIT: Ancil Lewis Burgess, 89, of Waverly, Ky., formerly of Flora and Johnsonville, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the Morganfield Nursing & Rehab Center, Morganfield, Ky.
Graveside services for Burgess will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Xenia. There will be no visitation, Frank & Bright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Burgess was born July 16, 1919 in Wayne County to Lewis Mason and Laura Etta (Henson) Burgess. They preceded him in death.
He married Doris Jenkins on May 1, 1983 in Kentucky, she survives in Waverly, Ky.
Other survivors include; three daughters, Lilia Hulbert, of Mount Vernon, Ill.; Connie Gill, and husband Steve, of Flora; and LuAnne Pinnington, of Mishawaka, Ind.; one step-son, Danny Daughtery, and wife Linda, of Waverly, Ky.; one sister, Laura Bennett, of Xenia; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son David, one sister and five brothers.
Burgess worked as a Merigold Milkman in Clay County and later worked for the City of Flora until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church.
