Rufus died December 4, 2003 in Chambers Co., AL.
He married Della Rose Deuel December 23, 1938 in Montgomery, Montgomery Co., AL. Della was born July 13, 1918 in Lewistown, Fergus Co., MT. Della died December 8, 2015 in Opelika, Lee Co., AL. OBIT: Funeral services for Della Rose Matthews, 97, of Opelika, formerly of Five Points, will be Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, at 1 p.m. CST at Five Points Baptist Church with the Rev. Rusty Williams officiating. Burial will follow at the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs. Matthews died Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Bethany House in Auburn.
A native of Lewiston, Mont., Mrs. Matthews was born July 13, 1918, the daughter of Earl Charles and Ethel Mae Holden Deuel. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Deedie Matthews of Opelika and Evelyn Newton of Five Points; four grandchildren, John Littlepage, Melissa Garrity, Ian Morse and Will Newton; two great-grandchildren, Erik Aquino and Boston Littlepage; one sister, Carolyn Jones (husband, Fuller C.) of Merritt Island, Fla.; one brother, Calvin Deuel of Huntsville; and a sister-in-law, Marion Deuel of Huntsville. Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rufus Matthews Jr.; two brothers, Robert Deuel and Glen Deuel; and one sister, Donna Bond.
Pallbearers will be Trip Garner, Tim Garner, John Robinson, Raymond Deuel, Mike McTaggart and John Matthews.
