Rufus died January 8, 2003 in Wedowee, Randolph Co., AL. Services for Rufus Henry (Buck) Kerr, 92, of Wedowee, were Friday, January 10, 2003, at 2 pm at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Henderson officiating. Burial followed at Wedowee City Cemetery. Mr. Kerr was a lifelong resident of Randolph County, the oldest of seven children. He was born July 19, 1910, son of Joseph Higgins and Levis Matthews Kerr. He was a retired rural letter carrier for the United Postal Service where he worked for 25 years. He also had worked at The Randolph Press and the State of Alabama ABC Board and was a member of the Kiwanis Club and Wedowee Senior Citizens, as well as being a member of the First United Methodist Church and a veteran of the Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Exa Hunter Kerr, a daughter, Melinda Wilson, and a son R. H. Kerr Jr. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Frances Hanson of Troy and Mrs Jane K. Williamson of Rome, GA; two sisters, Edith Head of Rock Mills and Mildred Snow of Birmingham, eight grandchildren and nine great-grand children and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Hunter Hanson, Emory Hanson, Michael Williamson, Gregory Childs, Barry Wilson Jr, Patrick Wilson, Clint Wilson, James Kendrick and Logan Ide. Honorary pallbearers were Wedowee Kiwanis Club. The family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund. Arrangements were by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee.

(WEDOWEE) Exa Emily Hunter Kerr, 89, of Wedowee died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at Wedowee Hospital after an extended illness. The funeral service was Friday, May 29, at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Wedowee, with the Revs. Tom Roberts and Earl Gordon and Dr. Harris Hand officiating. Burial was in Wedowee City Cemetery. Mrs. Kerr was born Nov. 1, 1908, daughter of James Robert Hunter and Anner Lee Price Hunter. She was a homemaker, a teacher in the Randolph County school system, a lifetime member of the Wedowee Garden Club, and a member of First United Methodist Church, Wedowee. Mrs. Kerr was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Kerr Wilson, a son, R. H. Kerr Jr., and a brother, John William Hunter. Survivors include her husband, R. H. Kerr of Wedowee; two daughters, Frances Hunter Kerr Hanson of Troy and Jane K. Williamson of Montgomery; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be [were] Hunter Kerr Hanson, Emory Hunter Hanson, Michael K. Williamson, Barry L. Wilson Jr., Patrick Wilson, Clinton Wilson, Gregory Childs and James Jacobs.
