Roland died July 20, 2009 in Phenix City, Russell Co., AL. OBIT: Roland Newsome, Jr., 70 of Phenix City, AL passed away Monday, July 20, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. EST Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Newsome Cemetery with Rev. Sammy Turner officiating. The family will receive friends this evening (Tuesday) from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST at Vance Memorial Chapel, Phenix City, AL. Mr. Newsome was born November 9, 1938 in Phenix City, AL, son of the late Roland Newsome, Sr. and Odessa Brazeal Newsome. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church and was retired from Civil Service as a Fire Controller. Mr. Newsome was a United States Army Veteran and served in the United States Army National Guard with 30 years of service; he loved horses, hunting, woodwork and all outdoor activities, but most of all he loved his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son Chris Newsome. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Beverly Ann Stamey Newsome; two daughters, Kim Watson and husband Chris of Smiths, AL and Brooke Newsome of Phenix City, AL; a son Todd Newsome and wife Connie of Columbus, GA; four sisters, Frances Herring of Smiths, AL, Shirley Newsome of Phenix City, AL, Eula Faye Rumsey and husband Yogi of Smiths, AL , Sue Gilbert and husband Jack of Salem, AL; four grandchildren, Madison Watson, Cole Newsome, Olivia Newsome and Cade Watson; many nieces, nephews, extended loving family and friends. Flowers are welcomed or donations may be made to the Columbus Hospice House, 7020 Moon Rd Columbus, GA 31907.
He married twice.
