William died March 17, 2004 in Concord, Cab Co., NC. Obit: William Fred Martin, 72, 305 N. Rose Ave., died Wednesday (March 17, 2004) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a period of declining health.

Born March 10, 1931, in Yadkin County, Mr. Martin, a son of the late John and Gertrude Allgood Martin, was educated in the Yadkin County schools.

He was a minor league pitcher for the Pirates Organization and later coached Little League baseball. He served during the Korean War in the U.S. Army, being discharged at the rank of corporal.

A member of West Point Baptist Church, he retired as a lieutenant from the Kannapolis Police Department after 35 years.

Survivors include wife Anna Rohrbauck Martin; sons William Fred Martin Jr., Raleigh, and Roger Dale Martin, China Grove; daughters Zandria Martin Turner, Concord, and Diana Martin Barnes, North Palm Beach,Fla.; sisters Ruth Steelman,London,Ohio, Faye Hilton, High Point, Betty Barnes, King, and Mary Brock, Mocksville; and six grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Whitley's Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Sandy Yow. Members of the Kannapolis Police Department will be seated as a group. Burial at Carolina Memorial Park. Military rites by DAV Chapter 27.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home on North Rose Avenue.

William Fred Martin and Anna Rohrabauck had the following children:
