Mariam was born April 13, 1915. Mariam died July 18, 2006 in Winston-Salem, Forsyth Co., NC. Obit: Mrs. Mariam Frances Mahood Garner died Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at Arbor Acres. She was born April 13, 1915, in Bluefield, W.Va., to Glenn Ray and Annie Nash Mahood. She moved to Winston-Salem at a very young age and attended public schools, graduating from Mineral Springs High School. She married Harold Hoots Garner on April 5, 1939. She was a lifelong member of Marvin United Methodist Church and was active in the Order of the Eastern Star and Forest Hills Civic Club. She enjoyed hand-painting china, creating needlework, quilting and cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Harold; two brothers, Bobby and Gene Mahood; a sister, Naomi Mahood; and a dear brother-in-law, Paul Spain. She is survived by a son, Harold H. Garner Jr., and wife Patricia; a grandson, Samuel Glenn Garner; and a great-granddaughter, Amelia Garner. Also surviving are two sisters, Lucy Spain and Betty Powers and her husband, Paul; as well as sisters-in-law Irene Mahood, Lucille Ashburn, Virginia Sherrill, Alice Garner, Betty McKinney and Margaret Garner. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and their children. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today, July 21, at Salem Funeral and Cremation Services. The family will receive visitors after the service. Memorials may be made to Fitzgerald Healthcare Center of Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community, 1240 Arbor Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104. The family would like to express its deep appreciation to the staff at Fitzgerald Healthcare Center for the great care so lovingly extended to Mrs. Garner.
