December 21, 1897, at Coal City, Indiana. He passed away in his sleep April 2, 1984 at age 86. His father, J.W., came with team and wagon to
Oklahoma and homesteaded one mile west of Red Star Church in 1898. His wife, Cora Dell and son Koert came out by train in 1899. Koert grew
to manhood in the Red Star Community. He was a veteran of WWI. Koert taught school at Diamond Front School in Oklahoma, as well as in
Colorado for a couple years. On June 6, 1920, he was united in marriage to Nellie Pearl Studebaker. To this union were born six children:
Esther, Don, Gene, Betty, Lewis and Janice, who died shortly after birth. In late 1944 they moved to Upland, California, where both Koert
and Nellie worked for a G.E. plant for 17 years. When they retired in 1961, they returned to Red Star community. Koert loved God, he loved
Nellie, he loved his family and friends, and he thoroughly enjoyed all of them. He was always a champion of Oklahoman. He promoted and
believed in soil conservation, and believed one should leave the land in better condition than one found it. He enjoyed good cattle, and
always sought to improve them. Koert was devoted to his church, unselfish in his giving and in his service to God. He had an exceptional
mind and keen with that remained with him to the last. During the last couple years, his courage and patience in the face of increasing
physical disability were a source of constant inspiration to his family and friends. His ability to quote poetry, limericks and "Uncle
John" stories delighted and amaze his children and grandchildren. He loved not only his children by birth, but also his "acquired"
children, as he called his daughters and sons-in-law. He passed away early Monday morning, April 2, 1984 in his sleep. Those who survive him
and will greatly miss him: Nellie Blackketter, his faithful and loving wife of nearly 64 years; his children: Esther Bailey and husband,
Fred, of Weatherford; Dr. Don Blackketter and wife, Leoda, of Shamrock, Texas; Eugene Blackketter and wife, Ruth, of Leedey; Betty Noel and
husband, Eldon, of Abilene KS; and Lewis Blackketter and wife, Arlene, of McLemoresville, TN; twenty-six grandchildren and nineteen great
