Emma died March 16, 2009 in Yadkin Co., NC. OBIT: Mrs. Elizabeth Sampson Hartman, 92, of Winston-Salem passed away Monday, March 16th, 2009 at Yadkin Nursing Care Center. Mrs. Hartman was born November 28, 1916 in Yadkinville to John David Leonard Sampson and Sally Bett Hutchens Sampson. The family moved to Winston-Salem where she graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1934. She was married to Howard Edward Hartman, Sr. in 1937. She and her husband spent many wonderful years together raising their family and later playing golf and square dancing together. She was a member of the Winston-Salem Friends Meeting, which her grandfather, David E. Sampson, founded in 1912.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, and five brothers:
David A. Sampson, James Harold Sampson, John Marsden Sampson, Thomas Leonard Sampson, and George Archibald Sampson.
Mrs. Hartman is survived by her sons: Howard Edward Hartman, Jr. and wife, Carol Jean of Yadkinville, and by Robert Leonard Hartman and wife, Sandra of Clemmons; two grandchildren, Zachary Scott Hartman of Charlotte; Melisha Hartman Chamra and husband, Allan of Gibsonville; one great-grandson, Kenan Thomas Chamra; a sister-in-law, Theresa Langley of Winston-Salem; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a private family graveside service at Forsyth Memorial Park on Wednesday, March 18th, with the Rev. Randy Hillman officiating. Memorials for Mrs. Hartman may be made to Winston-Salem Friends Meeting, 3151 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
The family would like to thank the staff of Yadkin Nursing Care Center and Dr. Ziglar for all of the love and care shown to Mrs. Hartman.
She married Howard Edward Hartman 1937. Howard was born November 1, 1914. Howard died February 24, 1998 in Winston-Salem, Forsyth Co., NC.
