Nellie died July 19, 2009 in Ridgeland, Madison Co., MS. OBIT: Services for Nellie Icie Ratcliff Ward, of Brookhaven, are 1 p.m. Thursday, July 23, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Brookhaven Branch with burial in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Red Star Ward Cemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Drive and Thursday from noon until 1 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Ward, 87, died July 19, 2009, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. She was born in Brookhaven on Sept. 21, 1921, to Richard Ratcliff and Ida Smith Ratcliff.

She was a homemaker. She worked at Bob's Sandwich Shop for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Brookhaven Branch.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Joseph Clyde Ward; her brothers, Carlos, Rance, Sidney and Aliby Ratcliff; and a sister, Beatrice Leggett.

Survivors are her sons, Michael Ward, of Monticello, and Ricky Ward, of Brookhaven; a daughter, Peggy Pead, of West Valley, Utah; her brothers, Versie Ratcliff and Percy Ratcliff, both of Brookhaven; her six grandchildren; and her nine great-grandchildren.

She married Joseph Clyde Ward November 11, 1946 in Monticello, Lawrence Co., MS. Joseph was born December 10, 1920 in Monticello, Lawrence Co., MS. Joseph was the son of Simon Ward and Nellie A. Edwards. Joseph died January 5, 1996. Joseph was buried in LDS Church Cemetery, Red Star, Lincoln Co., MS.

Nellie Icie Ratcliff and Joseph Clyde Ward had the following children:
