Ferdinand died December 11, 1938. Ferinand and Matilda were buried in New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery, Lincoln Co., MS.

He married Matilda (Tilda) Walker 1870 in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS. Matilda was born August 1852 in Wesson, Copiah Co, MS. Matilda was the daughter of John W. Walker and Amy Smith. Matilda died February 22, 1933.

Ferdinand Smith and Matilda (Tilda) Walker had the following children:
