Hugh died November 2, 2004 in Gulfport, Harrison Co., MS. OBIT: Graveside services with full military honors for Hugh E. Smith Sr. were 11:30 a.m. Nov. 6, at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane, Wash. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home of Spokane was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Smith, 92, died Nov. 2, 2004, in Gulfport. He was born in Brookhaven on Nov. 13, 1911, to Wayne and Della (Whittington) Smith. He served his country during World War II in England as a Master Sergeant with the Air Force. He retired after 20 years of service. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife of 54 years, Eleanor M. Smith; his brother, Troy Smith; and his sister, Cleo Smith. Survivors are his son, Hugh E. Smith Jr.; his sister, Etta M. Brewer of Brookhaven; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren
He married Nola Jane Richardson. Nola was born December 12, 1914. Nola was the daughter of Melton Richardson and Margaret (Maggie) Adams. Nola died January 24, 1990 in Lincoln Co., MS. Nola was buried in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Lincoln Co., MS
