OBIT: Alcus James Montgomery, 90, of Brookhaven, MS, died Monday, October 14, 2013 at Silver Cross Nursing Home in Brookhaven, Ms. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM. He will lie in state from 10 - 11 AM, on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at New Sight Baptist Church in Brookhaven. Burial will be in the New Sight Cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 from 5:00 PM till 9:00 PM at New Sight Baptist Church.
Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Walker Montgomery; his parents, Pearlie Montgomery and Ruthie Smith Montgomery; his 2 brothers, Earl Montgomery and Malcolm Montgomery; and his sister Myrtis Grice.
He is survived by his daughter Dianne Ashmore and husband Wayne of Brookhaven; his sons Harrell Montgomery and wife Vera of Wesson, MS and Carroll Montgomery of Brookhaven; his grandchildren, Kim Leoffler of South Carolina, Chad Ashmore and wife Kristy of Magee, MS, and Lauren Reeves and husband Sam of McComb, MS; his great grandchildren, Hattie Grace Ashmore, Jack Ashmore, Shaylee Lambert, Kaitlyn Leoffler, and Connor Leoffler.
He married Helen Ray Walker Octobe 8, 1945 in Lincoln Co., MS. Helen was born November 7, 1925 in Lincoln Co., MS. Helen was the daughter of Isom Walker and Katie Case. Helen died March 14, 2010 in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS. OBIT: Services for Helen Ray Montgomery, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, at New Sight Baptist Church, with burial in New Sight Cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the church, and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
Mrs. Montgomery, 84, died March 14, 2010, at Brook Manor Nursing Center. She was born in Brookhaven on Nov. 7, 1925, to Isom Walker and Katie Case Walker.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of New Sight Baptist Church, where she was a member of the WMU and a former Sunday school teacher.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Survivors are her husband, Alcus J. Montgomery, of Brookhaven; her sons, Harrell Montgomery and wife Vera, and Carroll Montgomery, all of Brookhaven; her daughter, Dianne Ashmore and husband Wayne, of Brookhaven; her grandchildren, Kim Leoffler and husband Layne, of Conway, S.C., Chad Ashmore and wife Kristy, of Magee, and Lauren Thomas and husband, Evan, of Liberty; and her great-grandchildren, Hattie Grace and Jack Ashmore, Shaylee Lambert, and Connor and Kaitlyn Leoffler.
Alcus James Montgomery and Helen Ray Walker had the following children:
