Ralph died August 15,2016 in Jackson, HInds Co., MS. OBIT: Funeral Services for Mr. Ralph Verdo Callender of Brookhaven are 11:00 am Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Riverwood Family Funeral Service with burial at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday, August 17, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Riverwood. Mr. Ralph Verdo Callender, 88, passed away August 15, 2016 at University Medical Center. He was born on October 14, 1927 to Isaac Earl Callender and Dovie Walker Callender. He was a Pastor, Teacher and also retired from Mississippi Welfare Department as a Social Worker. He was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, Isaac and Dovie Callender; first wife, Monell Laird; sister, Charlene Smith. Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Larry Callender, Mitchell Callender, Robert Callender; daughter, Patsy Smith; 7 grandchildren, Wade Callender, Shanna Gage, Randy Smith, Jacob Smith, Brandi Callender, Taylor Callender and April Scroggs. He is also survived by 7 great grandchildren.
He married twice. He married Monelle Laird. Monelle was born October 3, 1926. Monelle was the daughter of Benjamin (Ben) Laird and Louise Nettles. Monelle died May 17, 1963. Monelle was buried in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Lincoln Co., MS.
