Horace died December 14, 1966 in Hickory, Catawba Co., NC. Horace was buried in the Fairview Cemetery, Hickory, NC
He married Myrtle Marie Mace. Myrtle was born August 10, 1921. Myrtle was the daughter of Jefferson Bryant Mace and Ila Canipe. Myrtle died November 23, 2001 in Hickory, Catawba Co., NC. OBIT: Myrtle Marie Whitener, 79, formerly of Granite Falls, died Nov. 23 at the N.C. Lutheran Home. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Temple and was a retired seamer with Reese’s Finishing Co. Mrs. Whitener was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Lee Whitener; son Nathaniel Whitener; and daughter Patricia Ann VanHorn. Surviving her are sons Daniel R. Whitener of Mt. View and Paul Rudledge Whitener of Icard; daughters Dorothy Marie Vandenburg and Julia K. Hefner, both of Hickory; sisters Helen Houston of Bethlehem, Ruth VonArk of Monroe, Wis., Nancy Mays and Barbara Price, both of Granite Falls; brother John Robert Mace of Marion, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Services were held at the Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Ledford officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery.
Horace Lee Whitener and Myrtle Marie Mace had the following children:

26595 ii. Nathaniel Lee Whitener was born in Catawba Co., NC December 23, 1942. Nathaniel died April 2, 1961 in Catawba Co., NC. Nathaniel was buried in the Fairview Cemetery, Hickory, NC Nathaniel never married.
